Atlanta rapper Da Great Ape prefers to tell stories through his music, which he underpins with trap beats.
Raised in East Point (the "poor side of town"), Da Great Ape was initially very interested in pursuing music. However, he got caught up in the life of the streets, where he made money to help support his family. He could not shake his initial love of music, so he built a studio and started making tracks again. DJ MLK heard his music and put him in touch with T.I., who acted as a mentor for the aspiring artist. His early work culminated in the release of his debut EP, Ape Shit, in 2018. He followed the success of the EP with his debut full-length, 2019's Last Dope Boy Left, and a mixtape in 2020, STR8DROP. ~ Liam Martin
