Left-of-center R&B songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Coultrain (born Aaron Michael Frison) is from St. Louis, Missouri. He appeared on releases from the likes of the One (via a Waajeed remix) and Nato Caliph prior to releasing his conceptual and cerebral first album, The Adventures of Seymour Liberty, in January 2008. Additional featured roles, along with full-length projects such as Mugpush and Hawthorne Headhunters, preceded his second album. That release, Jungle Mumbo Jumbo, was issued on Plug Research -- home to Hawthorne Headhunters, as well as other soul-rooted, boundary-pushing artists -- in April 2013. ~ Andy Kellman
