Los Angeles-based brothers Jonathan and Michael Rosen both spent time playing in the backing band of Fiery Furnaces' Eleanor Friedberger in the mid-2010s, and while on tour they conceptualized starting a band that would meld their complementary musical personalities. Drawing from Jonathan's lifelong love of pop and Michael's more atmospheric leanings, they formed the duo Cones in 2016. Jonathan, an acclaimed animator, created a hand-drawn video for their debut single, "Echoes On," in spring of 2017, and by the end of the summer Cones had offered up two new slices of their restless yet tuneful pop in the form of second and third singles "Back in the Brain" and "Whatever You're Into." ~ Fred Thomas
