London-based DJ and producer Chris Bangs first coined the term "acid jazz" in 1987. While most club-going punters were under the spell of acid house, he and Gilles Peterson catered to London's rare groove fans. Peterson and Eddie Piller founded the Acid Jazz label, giving Bangs the opportunity to gain experience on composition, mixing, and hundreds of productions. Takin' Care of Business, his 1999 debut, won accolades across Europe; F**k Acid House This Is Acid Jazz followed in 2008. In 2022, he and Mick Talbot issued Back to Business, and in 2023, Bangs returned with the solo Latin jazz groove set, Firebird.
Chris Bangs has also released music as a member of Bangs & Talbot, Yada Yada, The 13th Sign, Original Soulboy Soundscape UK.
