Montreal indie-R&B act Chiiild includes Yonatan Ayal, who has cowritten or produced songs for Jennifer Lopez, Usher, and Tayla Parx under the name xSDTRK. ∙ Chiiild’s Pierre-Luc Rioux is an in-demand session guitarist who has played with David Guetta, Lady Gaga, Céline Dion, and Katy Perry. ∙ Ayal had not sung on a record before forming Chiiild with Rioux in 2017—and they booked their 2019 tour before they had actually performed as a duo. ∙ Chiiild and Shungudzo cowrote their 2019 single, “Back to Life,” on the day they first met.
