About Chico Trujillo
Artist Biography
Chico Trujillo is Chile's most popular cumbia band. Their music weaves the genre's historical past with global and modern influences, including rock, ska, hip-hop, dub reggae, punk, bolero, and Latin R&B. While their intoxicating sound is deeply rooted in the cumbias of the pre-Pinochet years, 2001's Chico Trujillo y la Señora Imaginación incorporated almost every aspect of Chilean popular culture. Their joyous, irreverent, dance-party concerts have been staged at Lollapalooza on both sides of the Atlantic, and presented at football stadiums, festivals, and clubs internationally. 2007's Cumbia Chilombiana was their breakthrough outing thanks to singles "The Conductor" and "Lanzaplatos." 2010's Vivito y Coleando, a live set, won a stateside fan base, while 2013's Gran Pecador moved through surf, vallenato, urban cumbia, psychedelia, and punky ska. In 2019, the band celebrated its 20th anniversary with the album Mambo Mundial. Over the next five years they traveled and issued a handful of singles including 2024's "Motivo Real."
