Merging a traditional bluegrass sound and first-class picking with songwriting that often confronts personal issues and political matters head on, Chatham County Line are a North Carolina foursome who first came together in 1999. On early releases like 2003's Chatham County Line and 2008's IV, their peerless instrumental work was matched by warm, naturalistic production and imaginative songwriting. In time, the group began experimenting with more ambitious production and melodic angularity, with 2020's Strange Fascination and 2024's Hiyo resembling indie rock as much as bluegrass.
