About Chantal Kreviazuk
Artist Biography
With her sophisticated and soul-stirring pop music, songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk has built a body of work dense with emotional depth and fruitful collaboration. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1974, Kreviazuk was a classically trained piano virtuoso by the time she was a teen. During a months-long recovery after a motorcycle accident in Italy, she set to writing pop songs and inked a record deal before she’d ever sung live in concert. She released her platinum-certified debut, Under These Rocks and Stones, in 1997, tapping into the angst of the era on tracks like the impassioned, symphonic “Surrounded.” Over the next decade, albums like 1999’s Colour Moving and Still and 2002’s What If It All Means Something—featuring songs like the upbeat lover’s ode “Before You” and the sweeping “In This Life”—netted her awards, hits, and critical acclaim, establishing Kreviazuk as one of Canada’s premier musical talents. She’s since made collaboration a major part of her life, teaming up with artists as diverse as Avril Lavigne, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar, and putting out an album as half of Moon Vs Sun with her husband, Our Lady Peace’s Raine Maida.
