A lauded, prolific bassist, John Patitucci has distinguished himself as a technically adept, boundary-pushing player known as much for his electric bass work as his acoustic post-bop albums. Patitucci emerged in the 1980s as a member of Chick Corea's Elektric Band, and picked up a Grammy nomination for his 1988 debut, John Patitucci. Along with his continued association with Corea, he earned Grammys with Wayne Shorter's acoustic group. While jazz is his chosen discipline, Patitucci has regularly explored Afro-Latin, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban traditions, on albums like 2003's Songs, Stories & Spirituals with Luciana Souza and 2015's Children of the Light with Danilo Pérez. The 2020s saw the release of widely acclaimed trio dates like 2020's Excursions and Adventures and 2022's Pride & Joy. In 2025 he issued Spirit Fall in a trio with drummer Brian Blade and saxophonist Chris Potter.
