About Bossacucanova
Artist Biography
Formed by Márcio Menescal, son of bossa nova artist Roberto Menescal, Bossacucanova combine traditional bossa nova with electronica. Bossacucanova launched with Menescal plus Alexandre Moreira and DJ Marcelinho da Lua, all working under a name that meant "bossa with a new mind," a sound heard on Revisited Classics (1999). Brasilidade (2001) was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in 2002 in the category of Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album. Uma Batida Diferente (2004) arrived with guest vocals from Cris Delanno; then, the live album Ao Vivo (2009) marked the 50th anniversary of the bossa nova sound. Nossa Onda é Essa (2014) found Bossacucanova adding samba to their repertoire. ~ David Jeffries
