About Boon Hui Lu
Born
December 11, 1993
Genre
Mandopop
Over the past few decades, Singapore has birthed a steady stream of Mandopop devotees who have each shaped the cultural landscape in Taiwan. Boon Hui Lu is serious about rapping and singing, and turned down a graduate accountancy job to focus on her music. After finding fame as a child actress, Hui Lu shifted towards songwriting in 2016, even composing for the likes of popular Taiwanese vocalist Hebe Tien. Her visibility skyrocketed again in 2017 thanks to her much-loved viral covers of Mandopop hits. Hui Lu continues to pour her own experiences into her lyrics: her 2019 debut album Honestly Me opened a window to her world, and depicted her life’s complexities over tranquil piano and elegant string-laden balladry. Hui Lu is prone to cross-genre experimentation, blending elements of pop, acoustic, indie, rock and hip-hop, having proven herself as a clever-tongued rapper and an avid experimenter when it comes to beats and production.
