An expansive showcase for Ben “Boo” Gumbleton’s open-hearted singing and poignant lyrics, Boo Seeka reliably delivers festival-sized electronic production at a head-nodding simmer. Early breakthroughs like 2015’s “Deception Bay” and 2017’s “Does This Last” stoke rising emotion across otherwise chill balladry. Operating as a duo—first with Sam Croft and then Michael May—before becoming a solo project for Gumbleton, Boo Seeka has dabbled in trip-hop and R&B while retaining a warm electro-pop core. Gumbleton has a knack for conveying feelings of empowerment, like a bolstering rush of wind that he can summon on command. Observe the heartening message of “Turn Up Your Light”: “Turn up your light/Don't be anything but you.” His sensitive singing can also adapt to more party-friendly cuts: “Fool” showcases his soul-worthy pipes against a deliciously funky backdrop, while 2021’s “Don’t Waste Your Love” brings euphoric romance squarely to the club.
