About B.M.
Artist Biography
Represented simply by his initials, Bolia Matundu is a Congolese-born, London-based Afro-pop singer, songwriter, and producer. After several group projects, BM rose to fame in the latter half of the 2010s as a solo artist with his debut, Ebebi the Album, and popular singles like "Rosalina (Break Your Back)" and the ASSI collaboration "Gwara Nao Para."
Born in Congo's capital city, Kinshasa, Matundu relocated with his family to England when he was seven years old. Active in his church's choir, he developed a love for music and took influence from African greats like Papa Wemba and Werrason. While still a teenager, he formed the group DRT, who earned some national recognition in the U.K. for the pulsing electro-rap single "Get Mad Now." He later found his footing as a solo artist, combining bright Afro-pop tones with bits of rap and R&B on early singles "Ebebi" and "Baloba," both of which featured on his full-length debut, Ebebi the Album. Over the next few years, BM's audience grew significantly with songs like the 2018 Eddy Kenzo collaboration "Makolongulu," "Rosaline (Break Your Back)," and "Koloko" with Nestreya. He entered the next decade with a string of singles including the Mini collaboration "Deepest Trenches" and "Kanda" with Celeo Scram. ~ Timothy Monger
