Short for Brand-new idol Society, BiS was founded in 2010 by Pour Li, who decided to give up her solo career and audition members for a new “alternative” idol group.
∙ In true idol fashion, BiS has gone through three different versions of the group—the first two being led by Pour Li—and more than two dozen members.
∙ In 2013, BiS briefly added a surprise new member, JK, who turned out to be famed fashion designer Junko Koshino.
∙ BiS is the flagship project of WACK, a music production company that manages several dozen idols and numerous groups, frequently swapping members from one outfit to another.
∙ Following the 2018 departure of Pour Li, BiS was briefly split into two groups, BiS 1st and BiS 2nd, which competed for fan votes and record sales.
∙ Their 2019 single “Are You Ready?”—an 11-plus-minute track inspired by Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody—was selected as the closing theme for anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS.
∙ Their 2020 album, LOOKiE, contains several homages to Green Day’s breakthrough album, Dookie.
