Bill Evans formed his first trio with friends Connie Atkinson and Frank Robell before graduating from high school.
∙ In 1959, Evans formed his first major jazz trio—with bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian—which recorded Portrait in Jazz that same year.
∙ Evans recorded his Grammy-winning 1968 album, Bill Evans - At The Montreux Jazz Festival, with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Jack DeJohnette.
∙ In 1968, he formed his longest-running trio with Eddie Gomez and drummer Marty Morell.
∙ He won two Grammy Awards for his 1971’s The Bill Evans Album, which also featured Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell.
∙ The two members of Evans’ last trio, bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Joe LaBarbera, also played on the pianist’s Grammy-winning 1979 album, We Will Meet Again.
