An excellent tenor saxophonist, Benny Golson was perhaps best known for his writing, having contributed classics such as "Killer Joe" and "Stablemates" to the jazz repertoire. After garnering acclaim in the early '50s for his group with Art Farmer, Golson took a hiatus from jazz to compose for film and TV, but he eventually returned to his jazz roots. Golson passed away in 2024, age 95.
Benny Golson has also released music as a member of Roots, The Jazztet, Benny Golson Orchestra, Benny Golson Quartet, Benny Golson Sextet, Benny Golson Quintet, Benny Golson Jazztet, Curtis Fuller Quintet, and Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers.
