About Banda Los Recoditos
Artist Biography
Drawing from their native Sinaloa’s rich musical tradition, Banda Los Recoditos refresh the banda sinaloense sound for newer generations. An offshoot of Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga, the group was born in 1989 while performing at a tribute ceremony for golden-age singer José Ángel Espinoza in their hometown of Mazatlán. Their first lineup included none other than Alfonso “Poncho” Lizárraga and Pancho Barraza, who both used the group as a launching pad for their highly successful solo careers. After a decade of album releases (as well as a brief stint under a different name), the group would be reborn in 1999 with a new lineup. It was this incarnation that won the group major attention with 2004’s Si No Existieras...Pero Existimos and 2005’s Dos Enamorados, which banked heavily on the romanticism inherited from the Barraza years. Their 2010 release, ¡Ando Bien Pedo!,––a collection of boozy jams for cantina after-hours––would truly hone in on the band’s vitality and bring them their first taste of stardom. Banda Los Recoditos would build on the momentum of that album, which won them a sizable U.S. audience, by cultivating a rawer, less extravagant approach to the genre in subsequent works like 2013’s “Mi Último Deseo” and 2015’s “Pistearé.”
