About Azul y Negro
Artist Biography
Pioneers of Spanish techno-pop, Azul y Negro were created in 1981 by composer, instrumentalist, and producer Carlos García Vaso and keyboardist Joaquín Montoya. The duo's futuristic dance music became an instant sensation in the early '80s, particularly their singles for the 1982 and 1982 editions of the Vuelta a España cycling race. The group's popularity, however, waned with the decade. Montoya's departure in 1993 put an end to the first and most celebrated period of Azul y Negro. A few years later, García-Vaso resurrected the project on his own, releasing six more albums between 2002 and 2015, and even re-releasing under the band's name the three albums he had issued as a solo artist between 1998 and 2001. ~ Mariano Prunes
