About AZ Chike
Genre
Hip-Hop/Rap
Representing a new generation of West Coast rap, AZ Chike cuts a tenacious figure across everything he does. Born Damaria Kayshawn Walker in South Central in 1995, he co-founded the AzCult collective in 2013 before releasing solo singles like 2017’s viral “Burn Rubber Again” and 2018’s trunk-rattling “The One.” He reunited with his AzCult crewmate AzSwaye on 2018’s dark and chattering “Tweakin’” and further developed his lyrical attack on 2019’s Rich & Ratchet, as well as playing simmering counterpoint to Almighty Suspect’s breathless intensity on 2019’s “Legend Killa.” But Chike really broke through to a wider audience with 2022’s aptly titled Chike Different, cruising over smooth, percolating production while tapping Mike Sherm for the hypnotic “Big Dawg” and flourishing all on his own on “Chike FRFR.” In 2024 alone, AZ Chike landed prominent features on ScHoolboy Q’s menacing “Movie” and Kendrick Lamar’s low-slung “peekaboo”—plus Lamar’s live performance of the latter during the Apple Music Halftime Show at Super Bowl LIX. That twofold Kendrick co-sign scored the rapper a deal with Warner, and he made his label debut with the delicious G-funk flashback “Whatx2” in 2025.
