In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
I remember my first Piano lesson, I was five years old and I remember the extreme excitement learning to play twinkle twinkle. It felt like magic. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
D'Angelo, Voodoo
Marvin Gaye, What's Going On Remastered
Wayne Shorter, Native Dancer
Voodoo is the master text for groove and D'angelo the messiah who resurrected funk. Native Dancer is a collaboration between two of my favourite artists of all time Wayne and Milton. What's Going On is my favourite album without question. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“Bed I Made”
This song is about relationship strife and is designed to “Sonically, spread and grow throughout the track building to a climax and intensity mirroring a real argument. I'm very proud of what we managed to achieve with a live band and production. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
When I was 27 I got to play trumpet with Maceo Parker in Melbourne as part of a local big band who accompanied him in a special concert, a tribute to Ray Charles as part of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
I want to play under my own name at NorthSea Jazz Festival, New York Winter Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Java Jazz Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival.
