In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
My parents were high school and middle school music teachers. Mom is a beautiful singer and Dad was a jazz trumpet player and drummer. Their students loved them. They took me to auditions around our hometown of Seattle. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Ella Fitzgerald, Mack the Knife: Ella in Berlin (feat. The Paul Smith Quartet) [Live in Berlin/1960]
Frank Sinatra, Sinatra At the Sands
Vulfpeck, Thrill of the Arts
The Sands combines my fave crooner with my fave band. I hear the Count Basie Orchestra challenging Frank to sing HUGE.
Thrill of the Artist reminds me of the funky music my parents played in childhood.
This is Ella, the best singer at her best show. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“Louboutins 2.0”
I wrote this song when I lived in LA as a new artist. I was told by a stylist that I was a nobody, & in order to become somebody, I had to wear Louboutins. I drained my account and bought the shoes. They were uncomfortable but they sure were pretty. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
Singing for a full Sydney Opera house with Postmodern Jukebox.
Repeated trips to Ronnie Scotts' in London with my killer band.
Recording "Standard" in Austin, TX, my new home.
Writing a song about my son, who's entrance in the world changed my life. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
Before my son was born, I toured the world and hit some bucket-list venues. Now, all I want is for my son to be old enough to see Mommy sing and think I'm cool. Other musicians have told me about their moment like this, and I can't wait for my turn.
