About Arko
Artist Biography
As a singer-composer, Arko Pravo Mukherjee is a powerful storyteller who crafts heart-rending ballads for Bollywood movies.
• Born and raised in Kolkata, Mukherjee originally studied to become a doctor. Emboldened by how artists use the internet to reach a wide audience, he left the profession and moved to Mumbai in 2008 to make music.
• After a few projects fell through, friend and actor Prashant Narayanan pitched Mukherjee as a composer to director Mahesh Bhatt. When Mukherjee passed a 15-minute audition, Bhatt brought him on board to compose “Maula”, “Yeh J**m” and “Abhi Abhi” for 2012 thriller J**m 2.
• The composer went on to deliver strong ballads such as 2014’s “Meherbani”, which helped launch singer Jubin Nautiyal’s career.
• He has crafted immersive ballads such as “Dariya” from 2016’s Baar Baar Dekho, drawing from Punjabi folk songwriting.
• In addition to nostalgic love songs like “O Saathi” from 2018’s Baaghi 2, Mukherjee has proven his diversity with party-ready tracks such as 2015’s “Paani Waala Dance”.
• Mukherjee has also composed rousing, patriotic and socially conscious Indian songs like “Teri Mitti” from 2019’s Kesari and “Desh Mere” from 2021’s Bhuj: The Pride of India.
