Anne Briggs was one of the finest British folk singers of the 1960s and ‘70s. She began as a traditionalist, concentrating mostly on performing and recording old British folk songs, and her debut EP proved to be a significant influence on subsequent U.K. folk artists. In the ‘70s, Briggs moved more toward a singer/songwriter approach, and while her recordings made her a cult hero, she never achieved much commercial success. She left the music business for good after the release of her 1973 album SING A SONG FOR YOU.
