French singer/songwriter Alain Barriere made his recording debut in 1961 with the single "Cathy" on RCA Victor. His first major hit came in 1963 with "Elle Était Si Jolie," which was chosen as the French entry in that year's Eurovision Song Contest, where it finished in fifth place. The hits continued to mount for Barriere in subsequent years. While he continued to release new material annually throughout the '60s and '70s, his output slowed to a trickle in the early '80s. After many years away from the limelight, Barriere staged a grand comeback in 1997 with 97. A performance at Paris' Salle Pleyel capped off his efforts. ~ Jason Birchmeier
