Following in the footsteps of Frankie Cosmos, Adult Mom's intimate indie pop took root in Westchester County, New York as the solo project of songwriter Stevie Knipe. By fifth EP Sometimes Bad Happens, released in 2014, they had stepped up the recording quality and were operating unofficially as a band. The project's full-length debut, 2015's Momentary Lapse of Happily, continued to navigate young adulthood through its lyrics. Adult Mom made their Epitaph label debut with Driver in 2021. Informed by a series of life-altering events, including cancer surgery, Natural Causes followed on the label in 2025.
