Genre
Jazz
Not to be confused with either a progressive rock combo that was active in South Africa in the late '60s and early '70s or the New York-based soul-jazz outfit, this Abstract Truth is a Philadelphia-based big band with a post-bop orientation and a strong Oliver Nelson influence. The project was founded in 1989 by trumpeter/flugelhornist/arranger John Vanore, and they emphasize Vanore's own compositions. Their first album, Blue Route, came out in 1990, with Curiosity following in 1991. While Vanore was also active as a soloist and collaborator, a third Abstract Truth album, Contagious Words, appeared in 2011.
Members of Abstract Truth include, or have included, Monique Bingham, Ron Thomas, Jepthé Guillaume, Vincent Chancey, and John Vanore.
