BIBI
EVE: ROMANCE
Album · K-Pop · 2025
On the eve of her first world tour, Korean R&B singer-songwriter BIBI released EVE: ROMANCE, a 14-track album about the duality of love. The theme is exemplified by singles “Apocalypse” and “Scott and Zelda,” breezy, assured tracks about the seductive and self-delusional potentials of love. “The way you read/Oh my god, those paper cuts,” BIBI playfully whisper-croons on the latter, which is titled something closer to “Bookshop Boy, Literary Girl” in its original Korean. “Shh, look at your apple/I wonder what it tastes like,” BIBI sings on the chorus of the former, tapping into a similar balance of bemused and sincere in her vocal delivery.
BIBI entered the public eye in 2018, when she was scouted by rappers YOON MIRAE and Tiger JK to appear as a contestant on the Korean competition show The Fan. She made her debut in 2019 with the pop track “Binu,” which translates to “soap” in English, pushing K-pop norms by touching on subjects like alcohol, cigarettes, and hickeys in the sweetly performed single. BIBI would continue to build on her honest, provocative persona with tracks like 2020’s “She Got It” and 2022’s “Best Lover.”
Some of BIBI’s biggest hits include 2021’s “The Weekend,” 2022’s “BIBI Vengeance,” and 2024’s “Bam Yang Gang.” The last, a whimsical, confectionary-themed pop track, represents a departure from BIBI’s signature sultry sound, and is one of eight songs on the musically eclectic EVE: ROMANCE that were previously released. The six tracks original to the album include “Apocalypse,” “Meat,” “Pygma girl,” “Scott and Zelda,” “Real Man,” and “Midnight Cruise.”
