i-dle
We are - EP
Album · K-Pop · 2025
The K-pop squad formerly known as (G)I-DLE officially rebranded as i-dle in May 2025, on their seventh anniversary as a group. We are i-dle—a nine-track album consisting of rerecordings of tracks previously released with former member SOOJIN, who left the group in 2021—was their first release under the new name. However, the six-track EP We are, released a few weeks after We are i-dle, marked the five-member group’s first new music as i-dle. While the group may have changed their name in 2025, their sound stayed consistent. After their debut under Cube Entertainment in 2018, i-dle became known as a modern girl group that channels the bold, brash delivery of second-generation K-pop, especially “girl crush” pioneers 2NE1. We are’s lead single “Good Thing” builds on this legacy, pairing retro electropop with Auto-Tune kitsch to evoke the Korean dance pop of the naughts. Like “Good Thing,” pop-rock track “Girlfriend” leans into tongue-in-cheek tackiness to deliver its album-defining statement: “I don't give a fuck about love/’Cause we are i-dle, uh.” While i-dle has written most of their own music, leader SOYEON has historically led those efforts. We are continues a shift towards other members taking a more active part in the songwriting process as both lyricists and composers. On the EP, SOYEON led production on “Good Thing” and “Girlfriend,” with YUQI working on “Tease,” MINNIE on “Chain,” and SHUHUA on “If You Want.” While member MIYEON had previously written lyrics for (G)I-DLE songs, “Unstoppable” marks the first time she composed for the group.
