It’s been quite a buildup for Born of Osiris’ seventh album. The progressive metalcore squad released the lead single, “Torchbearer,” back in August 2023. With staccato, mechanized verses leading into a high-flying chorus, parts of the track recall early Fear Factory. The next three singles—“A Mind Short Circuiting,” “Elevate,” and “In Desolation”—were released across 2024, delivering heavy electronics and hyper-djent riffing in equal measure. All four set the stage for the album’s title track: Driven by a skittering synth pad and guitar figure, “Through Shadows” explodes into an anthemic chorus in which vocalist Ronnie Canizaro welcomes us to the end, with “nowhere left to go.” Of course, Born of Osiris has plenty more places to go here, including “Activated,” featuring a cameo from Underoath vocalist Spencer Chamberlain.
