Though it clocks in at just six tracks and 17 minutes, crushed! digs into its titular theme with the density and intensity of a conceptual double album. On “Disaster,” the Toronto alt-pop singer is secretly pining for a new beau with all the synth-pulsing passion of Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own.” On the dreamily anthemic “Brand New Heart,” she’s sifting through the wreckage of a failed romance with a Taylor-esque mix of vulnerability and venom. And on “Face Like Yours,” she unloads on a good-looking but emotionally vacuous ex with acidic Olivia Rodrigo attitude. But all this relationship drama hasn’t completely hardened Porat’s heart. On the closing acoustic ballad “Blueprint,” she’s not only falling head over heels in love again, but she’s already seeing the bright side of the flame inevitably dying out: “But if you aren’t who I spend forever with/At least you left me this/Baby, you’re the blueprint.”
