Payroll Giovanni has long been a consistent supplier of solid street raps, and on his 2024 effort Hustle Muzik, he operates under a wise maxim: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The project, his first since his 2023 album with HBK entitled Kid & Pay, finds the Detroit rapper reuniting with frequent collaborator Cardo, alongside a number of other producers. While Payroll is happy to bask in the spotlight, he extends a number of invitations to close friends and new pals alike, recruiting a number of stars to beef up the album. “Woke Up & Bought a Benz,” which features a smooth and playful woodwind-based beat, includes a verse from Slim Thug, who raps about getting pesos and besos, plus his newfound inability to stop smiling. Benny the Butcher joins in on “Deeply Involved,” and E-40 rolls through on “Growth.” Regardless of who’s featured on what song, though, Payroll Giovanni keeps things consistent: Stay thankful, keep hustling, and the riches will continue to stack sky high.
