Big Moochie Grape
EAT OR GET ATE 2
Album · Hip-Hop/Rap · 2024
Big Moochie Grape knows that the rap game ain’t for the faint of heart. Hailing from Memphis, one of the most ruthlessly competitive rap scenes in the country, Moochie was prepared for the high stakes of hip-hop, but on EAT OR GET ATE 2, he goes after his goals with reckless abandon. On the project’s predecessor, East Haiti Baby: Incarcerated, Moochie dabbled in biography and street tales, eager to share his story with the world. On EAT OR GET ATE 2, which follows the series’ first project from 2020, Big Moochie is done with the heartwarming odes to his struggle. As the title suggests, it’s kill or be killed.
On opener “Crip Blue Hundreds,” the beat is stark and accented by looped synth stabs that start and stop like a game of red light, green light. He raps, “Got rich off the rap, but I still got the trap house bumping.” Elsewhere, on “Trap a Little Harder,” he reiterates that though he may have left the streets for greener pastures, the streets never really left him: “Serving that hard just to go and get the rent paid/Killers on payroll, do ’em bad, get a raise,” he proclaims.
