Jimmy Wopo
Back Against the Wall
Album · Hip-Hop/Rap · 2017
Jimmy Wopo made the most of his two-month jail term for probation violation, penning this trap-heavy mixtape while behind bars. The Pittsburgh MC lets a dude named Slumlord kick things off with a freestyle—possibly from a prison phone—and later, on "First Day Out," Wopo details his return to freedom over a pennywhistle melody and thunderous bass. Fellow Steel City rapper Kizzl drops a paranoid verse on the ominous "Booby Trap," and Hardo supplies the singsong chorus on "All Us."
