Bop City 2: TerroRising
Album · Pop · 2017
On the second installment of Terror Jr’s Bop City series, the conceptual pop trio continue to toy with the contrast between bright, playful production and nihilistic lyrics. On the stripped-down but buoyant “Death Wish,” Lisa Vitale’s Auto-Tuned vocals sound sweet and coy while referencing Jim Jones’ cyanide Kool-Aid as well as Romeo and Juliet’s suicide pact. But the trio get real on the moody, climactic “Caramel,” a response to sociopolitical injustice with only finger snaps and gun-cocking sound effects as percussion.
