If your impressions of Jon McClure’s Reverend and the Makers are based on 2007’s radio-conquering hit Heavyweight Champion Of The World, then the 23 minutes of spaced-out electronica on Mirrors (Overproof Dub) will come as a serious shock. The influences here are many and entirely intoxicating: trippy opening track Amsterdam, for example, sounds like The Beatles post-Rishikesh and is followed by Black Window, which moves from baggie rave-indie into fuzzy guitar squall. Elsewhere, “Blue and Mr Glassalfempty show off the depth of the Revs melodic arsenal.
