On Space Dimension Controller's debut full-length, we follow the journey of Mr. 8040 in the form of a modern B-movie space opera, imagined as a psychedelic pseudo-musical for broadcast. It sounds farcical—and it is, somewhat. But the superb production recalling the likes of Drexciya and Jeff Mills makes for such an impressive setting that the tongue-in-cheek plot (which unfolds via semi-rap voiceover) only adds to the package. There's been talk about wanting to tour a full stage production of Welcome to Mikrosector-50, which would be the ultimate conceptual crucible for the project. As an album, the imagined expedition to Tiraquon6 is thoroughly hedonistic. With the over-the-top concept and the perfectly tuned tracks that serve as the backdrop, it's hard not to enjoy something about Mr. 8040's misadventures in space.
