Artist Biography
Argentinian rock star Gustavo Cerati took up guitar at age nine and was inspired to join a band after discovering the music of Jimi Hendrix and The Who.
∙ In the ’80s and ’90s, he was vocalist and guitarist for the Argentinian alt-rock band Soda Stereo, one of the most influential and popular Latin groups of all time.
∙ Along with his electronic outfit, Plan V, Cerati collaborated with UK techno legends The Black Dog on 1998’s Plan V vs. Black Dog.
∙ He made his acting debut in and composed the Latin Grammy-nominated score for the 2001 Argentinian film + Bien.
∙ Cerati’s third album, 2002’s Siempre Es Hoy, was nominated for a Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album Grammy Award.
∙ He coproduced and contributed guitar to two songs on Shakira’s Grammy-winning 2005 album, Fijación Oral, Vol. 1, including the hit single “No.”
∙ A six-time Latin Grammy Award winner, he won Best Rock Song three times and Best Rock Album for 2009’s Fuerza Natural.
